Ali Ruth (PhD Student)

Ali Ruth is a doctoral candidate in Bioethics and Health Policy in the department of Health Policy and Management. Prior to coming to Hopkins, Ali was a Senior Research Assistant at the International Food Policy Research Institute, where she first worked with IFPRI’s research ethics committee on developing ethics policies and procedures for international agricultural research. She then worked with the nutrition team at HarvestPlus.

Previously, Ali interned at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Medical Ethics & Health Policy studying the structures and policies of research ethics committees in African countries. She also worked at the National Institutes of Health with the Environmental Autoimmunity Group researching environmental risk factors for polymyositis and dermatomyositis, autoimmune diseases with unknown etiology. Ali received her A.B. in Environmental Biology from Washington University in St. Louis and spent a semester studying public health at the University of Botswana. Her research interests include research ethics, ethical issues in RCTs, food and nutrition policy, and global bioethics.
