David Meyers (MBE student)
I am a physician no longer in clinical practice. After receiving my AB from Franklin & Marshall College, my MD from Temple University, and residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, I pursued my career in emergency medicine, first as a clinician then as emergency department medical director at a variety of institutions – from small, rural, critical access hospitals to large urban teaching and trauma centers, including Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. I maintain medical staff privileges there, and most recently have been involved in teaching of residents, quality improvement and safety efforts and the hospital’s ethics committee. For a number of years, I ran the medical malpractice insurance and risk management programs for EmCare, Inc, a large physician practice management company with 7500+ clinicians.
My interest in clinical ethics began in medical school, and I have had some formal training over the years starting with dr Mark Siegler’s program at the University of Chicago some 30 years ago. I am particularly interested in clinical ethics, moral distress and just institutional culture.
