Liz Ghandakly (MBE student)

I grew up in Toledo, OH and attended The Ohio State University where I studied Economics, Political Science and Arabic. As part of my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at the University of Damascus in Syria in 2005, during which I travelled extensively throughout the Middle East. After college I obtained a joint JD/Masters in Public Policy Administration, also from Ohio State. Since 2009, I have worked as a corporate attorney focusing on public sector technology contract negotiation, ethics and compliance, privacy and security law, analytics, and government regulation.

Since starting my legal practice, I have gradually found my way to the fields of public health and medical ethics. I was appointed a Commissioner on the City of Alexandria’s Public Health Advisory Commission and on the Volunteer Services Advisory Council at Children’s National. I have also done Evidence Based Toxicology research work with Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (“CAAT”) and plan to start medical school in the fall of 2018. I hope to work and research in the intersection of law, policy, and medicine, with focus on end of life decisions, global access to healthcare, and ethical domestic healthcare policy.
