Rebecca McLaren

Senior Research Program Coordinator

Rebecca McLaren, MD MPH, is the Senior Research Program Coordinator at the Global Food Ethics and Policy Program.

Prior to coming to the Berman Institute, she ran a research cricket farm at the Center for a Livable Future’s Food Systems Lab to investigate raising crickets both for fish feed as part of an aquaponics system and for human food.

She has always been interested in human health, nutrition, and food systems and the complicated relationships between them. She received her MD from Johns Hopkins where she gained experience working with patients in many different areas of medicine. She was particularly interested in the social determinants of health both here in Baltimore and abroad, where she has worked in South America and Southeast Asia. She received her MPH from Johns Hopkins in the Global Environmental Sustainability and Health concentration. She focused on how the food system impacts both human and environmental health. She has also worked on farms across the United States where she gained experience with the difficult realities of growing food.

She is passionate about food access and working to ensure that everyone both here in Baltimore and abroad has access to healthy food that is produced sustainably.
