Rebecca Wilbanks

Hecht-Levi Fellow

Rebecca Wilbanks received her PhD in 2017 from Stanford’s Program in Modern Thought and Literature and holds a BA in comparative literature and biological sciences from Cornell University. Her work engages with a number of fields, including 20th century to contemporary American literature, speculative fiction, bioethics, science and technology studies, the environmental humanities, and the history and philosophy of science. During her Hecht-Levi Fellowship, Rebecca will work with the BI Center for Bridging Infectious Diseases, Genomics & Society (BRIDGES), where she hopes to contribute to debates about the applications of gene editing technologies by comparing historical and contemporary initiatives to modify either the nonhuman environment or the human body to combat infectious disease.
