Position Title: Bioethics Research Project Specialist

Position Description:

The Bioethics Research Project Specialist will assume responsibility for ensuring the successful conduct of a comparative effectiveness and quality improvement project for the Berman Institute of Bioethics.

 

The Bioethics Research Project Specialist will work with the principal investigators of the project to: produce a clear, conceptual analysis that defines and characterizes the constitutive elements of “research” and “treatment” through the development of rich case studies; examine the implications of this conceptual analysis for moral and policy purposes; conduct empirical research in the areas of a) clinical trials of unapproved drugs and devices; (b) comparative effectiveness research; and (c) quality improvement research; and based on the conceptual, moral, and empirical findings, develop policy guidance and safeguards for research participants in the three areas above. The position will have responsibility for all facets of research activities, data management, and regulatory activities for the project. S/he will perform primary research for project aims; analyze and synthesize data; generate progress reports; develop interview guide; draft case studies; draft and contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, and analysis to manuscripts and white papers ; manage general project administration; handle focus group logistics and project related meetings; and ensure smooth communications among Core Group members.

 

Education: BA in related discipline. Graduate degree preferred. Three years related experience required (advanced education may substitute for some experience).

Candidate must have familiarity with bioethics issues; excellent written & verbal skills; organizational skills; ability to complete work independently; library & online research skills; and computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, data software, and research tools. Experience in public health research preferred. Individual must be able to exercise judgment, quickly assess issues, and recommend responsive solutions
