Position Description:
The Program on Ethics in Clinical Practice at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics was established in September 2005. Currently, a major component of the Program’s portfolio is the Ethics in Clinical Practice Project (ECPP). The ECPP includes several innovative educational and research initiatives related to ethical issues in clinical practice. The ECPP contributes to the missions of the Berman Institute of Bioethics, the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by delivering rigorous high quality training in clinical ethics to residents from a range of medical specialties. One of the Program Coordinator’s primary functions will be to work with faculty to ensure successful continuation and evaluation of existing educational programs, the development of new educational programs, and conduct of empirical research projects related to the educational work. In addition, the Program Coordinator will work with the Institute’s research team to assist faculty in pursuing a variety of opportunities for research on emerging bioethics issues that offer a significant likelihood of important scholarly or policy impact.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:
The Research Assistant will work with ECPP faculty members and the Berman Institute’s Research Manager to coordinate numerous academic and empirical projects and their components. The position's major areas of focus include qualitative and quantitative research, project management, and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include research; literature searches and reviews; developing reports on literature and educational assessments; drafting and editing reports and manuscripts; assisting in the development and implementation of needs assessment projects; setting up and managing online learning platforms; assisting in developing and submitting eIRB applications and related documentation; data entry, cleaning, and data set management; and administrative functions including coordination of meetings/event planning. Other duties as assigned.  
 
Bachelors degree in bioethics or a related field required; additional experience may substitute for education. Some related experience required; additional education may substitute for experience.

Special skills and knowledge: Must be detail-oriented. Must have excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills; organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work independently; library and online research skills; computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, data entry programs and research tools.  
 
Masters and/or at least three years of related experience that would result in familiarity with bioethics issues/topics preferred.
 
Preferred qualifications include data analysis skills, including knowledge/application of SPSS and/or STATA and qualitative analysis methods and software programs (e.g., NVIVO, AtlasTi, etc.).
