Joseph Ali is the Administrative Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins Fogarty African Bioethics Training Program. The program is a collaborative project directed by Drs. Nancy Kass and Adnan Hyder with support from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, The Berman Institute of Bioethics, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Clinical Bioethics. Joseph earned a JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with a certificate of advanced study in Health Law. He has also completed significant graduate coursework in bioethics at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Bioethics & Health Law. Joseph holds a BA in Bioethics and Philosophy from the University of Toronto.

Kathy Anglemyer is the Development Coordinator for the Berman Institute.  She is responsible for direct support to the Development and Communications Departments.  Prior to coming to Johns Hopkins University, Kathy managed the annual fund for the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore. Before that, she worked in sales and marketing for Alitalia Airlines, one of the leading air carriers to Italy, and British Airways. Kathy has recently returned to school to complete her undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from the College of Notre Dame.

Julia C. Chill is the Director of Administration for the Berman Institute of Bioethics. She oversees the administrative, financial, and operational activities of the Institute. Ms. Chill provides counsel to the Institute's Executive Director with respect to strategic planning, management of resources, and policy changes as well as managing and directing special projects. She also serves as senior liaison to the Institute's Advisory Board and to faculty and Institute committees. Ms. Chill has served in both an administrative and programmatic capacity at numerous organizations, including the Carnegie Corporation of New York, where she focused on the education and health of children. She has a strong interest in human rights and was a founding member and Chair of the Children's Rights Network of Amnesty International, USA. Ms. Chill holds a law degree from the University of Maryland, a master's in public health, as well as a certificate in health and human rights, from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health and a bachelor of arts from the University of Chicago.

Margie Cummins is an Administrative Assistant at the Berman Institute of Bioethics. She provides administrative support for various projects and grants. Ms. Cummins received her B.A. in Communications and her M.A. in Liberal Arts from the College of Notre Dame. She was involved in community theatre for a number of years and is currently very active in her community association serving on several governmental task forces and committees.

Kiran Khaira is a Senior Research Program Coordinator for the Berman Institute of Bioethics. She completed her M.A. in bioethics and B.A. in Religion and Biology at Case Western Reserve University. During her time at CWRU, she also spent 8 months traveling around China, India, Thailand and Turkey, studying comparative religions and cultures, through the Friends World Program of Long Island University.

Ralph Loglisci is the Communications Director for the Berman Institute of Bioethics. Before joining the Berman Institute, Ralph was the Communications Director for the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production. The Commission, a joint project between the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and The Pew Charitable Trusts, spent more than two years studying the effects of intensive food animal production on public health, the environment, rural communities and animal welfare. Before coming to Johns Hopkins, Ralph spent almost 15 years working as a broadcast journalist. He worked at WBAL-TV in Baltimore for six years, producing the 11PM for three years and the 6pm for three respectively. Before making Baltimore his home, Ralph worked in several television markets in Florida, from Tampa to West Palm Beach.  Ralph has won several awards during his journalism career, including a Washington D.C./Baltimore Regional Emmy for Best Newscast. Ralph received a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Florida. Ralph lives in north Baltimore with his wife and several pets.

Jenn Lohse is the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Nancy Kass. She handles a variety of administrative tasks related to the support of Dr. Kass's research, teaching and service to the University. Before coming to Hopkins, Jenn worked in grassroots fundraising at the American Cancer Society in Philadelphia. She received a B.A. in Maternal and Child Health from Brown University, where she was the team captain of the varsity swim team.

Michelle Martin-Daniels is the administrative coordinator for the Berman Institute of Bioethics at 100 North Charles Street. She received her BA in Philosophy from Bates College in Maine and her MA in Applied and Professional Ethics from UMBC. Prior to joining the staff at the BI, Michelle worked as an editor in the field of biomedical business intelligence and also served as an office manager for two Catholic churches in Baltimore city. Michelle is extremely pleased and excited about becoming a member of the BI staff and looks forward to a rewarding and lengthy tenure with Johns Hopkins University.

Rosana Medina is the Financial Manager for the Berman Institute of Bioethics.  She manages the Institute's sponsored funding and contract activities, as well as provides guidance regarding interpretation of contract, grant and cooperative agreement terms, cost principles and regulations under OMB guidelines, and other administrative rules. Ms. Medina has been with Johns Hopkins since 1996 and most recently worked as a Senior Financial Analyst with the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She managed all pre and post award activities for two large research centers, supervised the Payroll Coordinator and Administrative Assistant, and administered the human resources operation of the department.  Prior to joining Hopkins, Ms. Medina worked as a Financial Analyst with the Prudential Health Care Plan for six years.  Ms. Medina holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the Philippine Women's University and a Master in Business Administration from the Johns Hopkins University.

Alan Regenberg is a Senior Research Program Coordinator for the Berman Institute of Bioethics. He works on projects related to both the Program in Cellular Engineering, Ethics and Public Policy as well as the Program in Ethics and Brain Sciences. Prior to joining Hopkins, he worked in a geriatric psychiatry research center, focusing on multidisciplinary approaches to late-life depression in the context of medical/psychiatric comorbidities and medical settings. Mr. Regenberg received his masters of bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate training in history and psychology at Rutgers University.

Mr. Borchelt is Director of Communications for the Center. Prior to joining the Center, he was director of communications and public affairs at Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT, an independent research enterprise focusing on fundamental biological sciences. He has had a varied career in science communications and science public policy, including stints as media relations director for the National Academy of Sciences; press secretary for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology under the chairmanship of the late Rep. George E. Brown, Jr.; special assistant for public affairs in the Executive Office of The President during the Clinton Administration; and director of communications for the Department of Energy's Office of Science. While affiliated with Vanderbilt University, he chaired a three-year study, funded by NASA and DOE, on best practices in communicating to the public about science, technology and health. The study, by a blue-ribbon panel of Pulitzer-Prize winning journalists, scientists, public affairs officers, and science writers, culminated in the March 2002 conference "Communicating the Future," the first peer-reviewed international conference of its kind. He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2004, and is chair-elect of AAAS Section Y (General Interest in Science and Engineering). He also serves as reports editor for the peer-reviewed journal Science Communication. An undergraduate biology major at Southeast Missouri State University, he's done graduate work in both insect systematics and science communication at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Kim Frye is the Assistant to the Director of the Center. She handles all administrative and research support for the Director and Deputy Director, manages the Director's calendar, and assists in the coordination of center events. Prior to joining the Center, Ms. Frye worked as a special education teacher and managed a chiropractic/physical therapy clinic. Dave Kaufman

Dr. Kaufman is a Project Director at the Center, and is responsible for helping to design and analyze the Center's public opinion surveys on a range of topics. Previously, he was an epidemiologist at the MedStar Research Institute in Washington, D.C., where he analyzed genetic and environmental susceptibility to cancer and cardiovascular disease in American Indians and Alaskan Eskimos. He has worked in bioinformatics as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute, and in health policy at the U.S. Office of Technology Assessment. Dave holds a Ph.D. in genetic epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Biology and Anthropology from Oberlin College.

Juli Murphy is the Project Manager for the "Making Every Voice Count: Public Consultation on Genetics, Environment, and Health" study. She is a genetic counselor with over 10 years experience in clinical genetics and molecular diagnostics. Prior to joining the Center, she was the Marketing Director for Kimball Genetics, Inc., a national DNA diagnostic laboratory. Ms. Solt is the Office Manager at the Center. She handles office operations for the Center including finance, contracts, facilities management and human resources. She prevously provided financial and contracting services to several Washington architectural firms and, prior to joining the Center, managed day-to-day programming operations, contracts and budgets for the Program Department of WBDC-TV/Tribune Broadcasting. Shawna Williams is the Science Writer / Managing Editor for the Center. She writes about the Center's research and activities for the public. Previously, Williams was the public affairs officer at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Ithaca, New York. She has held science writing internships at the Salinas Californian newspaper, the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, the University of California, Santa Cruz, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and the Stanford University Medical Center. Williams holds a B.A. in Biochemistry from Colorado College and a graduate certificate in Science Writing from UC Santa Cruz.
